2019 Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration

The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important festivals in Chinese culture and is celebrated by Chinese people around the world. This year, the Olympia Area Chinese community also had a series of celebration events including the following two:

1. On September 14, Olympia Area Chinese Association (OACA) joined Federal Way and Bellevue Chinese communities in organizing the 2019 annual Mid-Autumn Gala in Tacoma. The event started at 4 pm and about 200 people participated. Old and new friends got together to enjoy the moon-cake and other delicious food, as well as the excellent performance brought by these three Chinese communities, including our own Olympia Area Dance team and individual performers Hongzhi Zhang and George Xu.

2. On September 15, the Olympia Chinese school hosted a number of special activities for the students and parents to celebrate the Mid-Autumn festival. Students had hands-on experience on how to make moon-cake, lanterns, Chinese knot, and other traditional art work under the direction of teachers and volunteers. This was such a joyful event, and all students learned a lot more about the festival and Chinese culture overall.
